Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and patient-focused New York State Licensed Ophthalmic Dispenser (Optician) to join our Spencerport practice full-time. In this role, you will work closely with our doctors and team to guide patients through frame and lens selection, perform precise measurements, manage job orders, and deliver custom fittings, adjustments, and repairs.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately interpret prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists.
• Assist patients with frame selections, matching aesthetics, lifestyle requirements, and lens options.
• Measure interpupillary distances (PD), segment heights, vertex distances, and pantoscopic tilt for accurate lens fabrication.
• Place orders with optical laboratories, verify incoming completed jobs against ANSI standards, and perform in-house modifications or repairs as needed.
• Provide patient-centered frame alignments, adjustments, and troubleshooting.
• Maintain organized optical displays, manage frame inventory, and assist with frame board vendor relations.
• Collaborate seamlessly with our front desk staff, optometric technicians, and doctors to ensure a smooth patient flow.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Licensure: Active New York State Ophthalmic Dispenser (Optician) license required. (Contact Lens endorsement is a plus!)
• Experience: Proven experience in retail or private-practice optical dispensing.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with lensometers, pupilometers, manual tools, and optical management software.
• Interpersonal Attributes: Warm, professional demeanor with strong communication and patient-service skills.
