Bioindustrial Lab Operations Coordinator

F3 Tech is seeking an early-career Laboratory Operations Coordinator to support the safe, organized, and effective operation of its Easton biomanufacturing facility.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working in a laboratory but is also comfortable coordinating projects, assisting clients, maintaining documentation, and solving day-to-day operational problems. The coordinator will help turn each client’s technical objectives into an organized laboratory engagement with defined space, equipment, materials, schedules, safety requirements, and deliverables.

The successful candidate does not need to be an expert in every scientific discipline. F3 Tech will supplement this position with specialized scientific, engineering, analytical, regulatory, and commercialization expertise when a project requires it. We are looking for someone with a strong scientific foundation, excellent organizational habits, sound judgment, and the ability to learn.

This position requires a primary on-site presence at F3 Tech’s Easton, MD facility to support clients, laboratory activities, and facility operations. Work hours may be flexible, and some responsibilities may be completed remotely when appropriate, provided that client needs, scheduled laboratory work, safety requirements, and the effective operation of the facility are fully met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Laboratory Operations

• Support the daily operation, readiness, cleanliness, and organization of F3 Tech’s laboratories.
• Prepare laboratory spaces and shared equipment for incoming client projects.
• Maintain equipment logs, calibration and preventive-maintenance schedules, service records, and operating documentation.
• Coordinate equipment servicing, repairs, installations, and vendor support.
• Monitor laboratory supplies, consumables, chemicals, gases, personal protective equipment, and other materials.
• Maintain current inventory and safety documentation, including Safety Data Sheets.
• Help develop, maintain, and implement standard operating procedures, checklists, and facility-use protocols.
• Coordinate safe receipt, labeling, storage, internal movement, and disposal of client samples and materials.
• Identify operational issues promptly and coordinate their resolution.

Client and Program Support

• Participate in technical intake and readiness discussions with prospective clients.
• Help determine the space, equipment, supplies, scheduling, safety documentation, and outside expertise required for each engagement.
• Prepare laboratories for Residency, Sample-to-Scale, and BioBridge Soft Landing participants.
• Conduct laboratory orientations and reinforce facility rules, safety practices, documentation requirements, and equipment-use procedures.
• Serve as the day-to-day operational point of contact for clients using the facility.
• Coordinate schedules among clients, equipment, laboratories, technical specialists, analytical providers, and F3 Tech staff.
• Track project milestones, laboratory activity, equipment usage, materials consumed, outside services, and client deliverables.
• Assist with project closeout, including cleaning, inventory reconciliation, documentation, sample disposition, and space turnover.

Technical Support

• Provide appropriate hands-on assistance with routine laboratory and bioprocessing activities based on training and demonstrated competency.
• Support operation of laboratory-scale bioreactors and related process equipment after training.
• Assist with sample preparation, basic measurements, experimental setup, data capture, and transfer of samples to analytical partners.
• Help clients follow approved protocols and maintain complete, accurate experimental records.
• Coordinate access to specialized technical experts when client needs exceed the position’s training or authority.
• Support the development of repeatable workflows that improve the quality and efficiency of F3 Tech’s client services.

Safety, Quality, and Compliance

• Promote a strong culture of laboratory safety, good documentation, and responsible equipment use.
• Review required client safety information before materials or activities are introduced into the facility.
• Support chemical hygiene, biological safety, waste management, emergency preparedness, and incident-reporting practices.
• Maintain training records and verify that users are appropriately trained before operating equipment independently.
• Report unsafe conditions and stop activities that present an immediate safety or facility risk.
• Assist F3 Tech in developing fit-for-purpose quality practices suitable for an early-stage bioindustrial development facility.

Administrative and Business Support

• Maintain organized client files, equipment records, project documentation, and facility-use data.
• Help estimate project requirements for laboratory time, equipment, supplies, outside testing, and technical support.
• Record information needed for client billing and project-cost tracking.
• Collect program performance data, including clients served, laboratory utilization, projects completed, and commercialization milestones.
• Assist with facility tours, demonstrations, partner visits, and occasional workforce-development activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, fermentation science, laboratory science, or a related field.
• Relevant laboratory experience gained through employment, internships, undergraduate research, graduate research, military service, or technical training.
• Familiarity with basic laboratory practices, accurate measurements, sample handling, recordkeeping, and safe chemical or biological material handling.
• Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail.
• Ability to manage several projects, schedules, and priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to communicate professionally with scientists, entrepreneurs, vendors, university researchers, and business partners.
• Ability to follow written procedures and recognize when additional technical guidance is required.
• Proficiency with common office software and willingness to learn laboratory, scheduling, and project-management systems.
• Ability to work primarily on-site at the F3 Tech facility in Easton, Maryland.
