Field Service Technician – Electromechanical Systems

Hunt Valve – A Fairbanks Morse Defense Company | Newport News Shipyard

We are seeking a high-energy, self-starting Field Service Technician to support Hunt Valve Company, a Fairbanks Morse Defense company, supporting critical U.S. Navy operations at the Newport News Shipyard.

This is a FULL-TIME DIRECT HIRE POSITION — NOT CONTRACT.

If you are looking for stability, long-term career growth, and a true technical career path, this is it.

About the Role

You will maintain electromechanical actuator systems aboard U.S. Navy vessels, including Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier programs.

These Hunt Valve actuators are critical shipboard systems used in the operation of:

  • Cargo elevators
  • Shipboard mechanical and control systems
  • Other mission-critical electromechanical applications aboard naval vessels

This is hands-on, precision technical work in a highly regulated, mission-critical naval environment.

Why This Role

  • NOT a contract role — direct hire stability
  • Long-term career growth within Fairbanks Morse Defense
  • Veteran-friendly and trade school friendly environment
  • Opportunity to work on critical naval elevator and weapons handling systems
  • Build expertise in advanced electromechanical actuator technology

Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time 40-hour work week

  • Sunday work paid at double time

Benefits Include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with 6% employer match
  • 100% tuition reimbursement
  • Strong long-term career development opportunities

Work Environment (Physically Demanding Shipyard Role)

This is a physically demanding shipboard/shipyard environment requiring the ability to:

  • Walk long distances across shipyard and vessel spaces
  • Climb ladders, gangways, and vertical ship access points
  • Work in confined, elevated, and industrial spaces aboard ships
  • Carry tools, parts, and test equipment throughout the vessel
  • Work at heights using fall protection systems
  • Stand and work for extended periods

A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and professional presence are required for success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service electromechanical actuator systems on naval platforms
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical system issues
  • Perform operational testing and system validation
  • Use hand tools and calibrated test equipment
  • Read and interpret:
    • Electrical schematics
    • Mechanical drawings
    • Technical manuals
  • Build, repair, and test wiring harnesses
  • Document all work using laptop-based reporting systems

  • Maintain strict safety, quality, and procedural compliance

Required Qualifications

  • Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting experience REQUIRED
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
  • Experience with electrical test equipment
  • Basic computer proficiency (laptop reporting, Microsoft Office)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Ideal Candidate

  • Hands-on, mechanically and electrically skilled
  • Comfortable in physically demanding environments
  • Strong communicator with a professional demeanor
  • Safety-minded and detail-oriented
  • Reliable with a strong work ethic
  • Looking for a long-term technical career path, not just a job

Additional Requirements

  • Must meet all security and access requirements for naval shipboard work
  • Strong attendance and accountability required
