Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Senior to join our public accounting team. The Tax Senior will lead tax engagements, ensure timely and accurate preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns for C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, and individuals, and provide strategic tax planning and compliance support to a diverse client base. This role combines technical tax expertise, client service, and supervisory responsibilities to deliver high-quality results and mentor junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple tax engagements from planning through completion, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Prepare, review, and file federal, state, and local tax returns, including C Corp (Form 1120), S Corp (Form 1120S), individual (Form 1040), and partnership returns (Form 1065).
  • Perform tax research and apply relevant tax laws to deliver accurate tax positions and recommendations.
  • Provide tax planning and consulting to clients on entity structure, transactions, and tax minimization strategies.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train tax staff and senior associates; review workpapers and returns for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with clients to gather necessary information, explain tax results, and address questions from management and owners.
  • Manage tax provision and compliance processes, including review of tax accounting entries and supporting documentation.
  • Utilize tax preparation and research software (e.g., UltraTax, Lacerte, GoSystem, ProSystem fx, Bloomberg Tax) to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist with IRS and state notices, audits, and tax controversy matters as needed.
  • Contribute to business development by identifying client opportunities and supporting proposals and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters in Taxation or MBA preferred.
  • CPA license required or CPA candidate with intent to obtain license within a specified timeframe.
  • Minimum 47 years of progressive experience in public accounting tax practice as a Tax Senior or Tax Accountant, with hands-on experience preparing and reviewing C Corp, S Corp, and individual tax returns.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements.
  • Proven experience in tax research, tax planning, and managing complex tax issues and return preparation.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation and research software (Lacerte, UltraTax, GoSystem, ProSystem fx) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent supervisory and mentorship skills with demonstrated ability to review and improve staff work product.
  • Strong client communication, organizational, and project management skills with commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, ethical, and able to handle confidential client information with professionalism.
  • Ability to support business development initiatives and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
