Dental Hygienist

Key Responsibilities

• Preventive Cleanings: Remove tartar, plaque, and stains from teeth using ultrasonic and hand instruments (scaling and polishing).
• Patient Examinations: Assess patient oral health, screen for oral cancer, evaluate gum health (periodontal probing), and take dental X-rays.
• Preventive Treatments: Apply fluorides, sealants, and topical anesthetics as permitted by state regulations.
• Patient Education: Instruct patients on proper hygiene techniques, nutrition, and the link between oral health and systemic diseases.
• Documentation & Safety: Record treatment plans, update medical histories, and strictly maintain sterilization and infection control protocols (OSHA/CDC).

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene (BSDH preferred by some clinics).
• Licensure: Active Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) state license and passing scores on the NBDHE (National Board Dental Hygiene Examination).
• Certifications: Current CPR / Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Key Skills: Manual dexterity, interpersonal communication, patient empathy, and attention to detail.
