Global Materials Compliance Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to Senior Manager, EHS+S, the Sustainability Program Coordinator supports

the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of sustainability and

material compliance programs. This role integrates regulatory compliance with

sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with global environmental regulations,

corporate CSR goals, and customer requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 Sustainability Program Management 15%

• Support the development and execution of corporate sustainability strategies,

goals, and initiatives aligned with Hitachi Group objectives.

• Coordinate sustainability programs including environmental performance tracking,

product stewardship, and responsible materials management.

• Assist in preparing sustainability reports, disclosures, and customer/regulatory

communications. 

Material Compliance Management 25%

• Maintain and manage the company’s material compliance program, ensuring

adherence to global, federal, and regional regulations (e.g., EPA, TSCA, REACH,

RoHS, SCIP, Prop 65).

• Review Full Material Declarations (FMDs), Certificates of Compliance (CoCs), and

regulatory data for products, parts, and assemblies.

• Ensure maintenance and accuracy of compliance databases (e.g., SCIP and other

reporting systems).

• Coordinate supplier data collection using third-party tools; ensure timely

completion of regulatory questionnaires.

   Develop and maintain procedures, guidance documents, and tools supporting

compliance activities.

 Regulatory Monitoring & Risk Assessment 25%

• Monitor and interpret emerging environmental, sustainability, and material

compliance regulations globally.

• Assess business impact of regulatory changes and support implementation of

necessary actions.

 Cross-Functional Collaboration 15%

• Serve as a key resource for internal teams including EHS, Legal, Trade Compliance,

Procurement, and Engineering.

• Provide guidance on sustainability and material compliance requirements to

divisions and suppliers.

• Coordinate with global entities to share best practices and ensure

consistent program execution.

 Auditing, Documentation and Reporting 10%

• Support internal and external audits related to sustainability and material

compliance.

• Maintain accurate documentation and records for regulatory and corporate

reporting.

 Training and Communication 10%

• Develop and deliver training materials on sustainability and material compliance

topics.

• Promote awareness and understanding of sustainability priorities across the

organization.

• Communicate technical requirements in a clear, actionable manner to diverse

audiences.

EDUCATION, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Sustainability,

or related field (or equivalent experience)

• Relevant environmental or sustainability certifications preferred.
