The Role: Tax Senior

The Tax Senior plays a crucial, hands-on role in the execution and delivery of complex tax compliance and consulting engagements. This position is responsible for preparing sophisticated tax returns, performing advanced research, mentoring junior staff, and supporting Managers in client advisory services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complex Compliance: Independently prepare and meticulously review complex tax returns for various entity types, including corporations (C/S-Corps), high-net-worth individuals, and partnerships.
  • Technical Research: Conduct advanced tax research on complex federal and state tax issues, developing well-reasoned conclusions and documentation to support planning and compliance activities.
  • Quality & Risk Management: Serve as a technical resource for Tax Associates, recognizing and escalating potential technical issues or high-risk engagement factors to the Manager for timely resolution.
  • Staff Mentorship: Supervise and provide initial on-the-job training and guidance to Tax Associates, reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness, and offering constructive performance feedback.
  • Client Communication: Cultivate a deep understanding of the client's business and economic factors to assist in providing holistic and innovative advice, and communicating directly with clients to gather necessary information.

What You'll Need

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Master of Tax or equivalent is highly preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of progressive tax experience in a public accounting firm.
  • Licensure: Active CPA license or significant, demonstrated progress toward obtaining CPA certification is required.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong proficiency in corporate, individual, and partnership taxation principles and compliance.
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building effective professional relationships.
  • Work Ethic: Must be highly motivated and adept at organizing, multi-tasking, and prioritizing work on multiple client engagements simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Software: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and standard professional tax and accounting software (e.g., Lacerte, ProSystem, QuickBooks).
