Elementary Special Education Teacher (School year 2026-27)

Overview

Special Education Teachers wanted for grades K through 5. Candidates must be eager to work with students of all abilities in a French immersion public school and adapt instruction to students’ interests and needs. Candidates must also be willing to be involved in the life of the school.

Status of Position

This is a full-time position with Académie Lafayette.  This is an exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Reporting

The Special Education Teacher reports to their campus/building principal.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for preparing and implementing the Missouri Learning standards for IDEA students in the classroom
• Following the goals and objectives in the IEP for each student by maintaining communication with parents and teachers on the educational progress of students.
• Work with building process coordinator in delivery of services to IDEA students.
• Work with general education teachers in screening, evaluating, and providing inclusion under parameters of IEP.
• Develop accommodations/modifications to meet the unique needs of students in classroom, CWC, or inclusive setting.
• Perform other duties assigned by Director of Special Education.
• Develop annual IEP’s and three year reevaluation reports for special education students.
• Knowledge of Transition Process/Student Goals
• Classroom management
• Communicate with peers and parents
• Maintain accurate grades, documentation of report cards, and attendance records
• Participate in all mandatory training and professional development, as required
• Engage in school-wide activities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Degree in Special Education
• Hold or be eligible for Missouri Teaching Certificate in Special Education or in an individual area
• Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal educational guidelines for IDEA and 504 partnered with a willingness to follow the school’s policies and procedures
• Proven experience as a teacher
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills necessary for working in a multicultural environment
• The ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and to meet deadlines
• Ability to integrate technology into the classroom
