Brookshire Nursing and Rehabilitation is seeking a Certified Activity Director to lead our activities in our long-term care, nursing home, and rehabilitation center settings. As the Certified Activity Director, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive activities program that meets the physical, cognitive, social, spiritual, and emotional needs of our residents, in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement a diverse calendar of individual and group activities based on residents' interests, preferences, and functional abilities

  • Conduct resident activity assessments and incorporate results into individualized care plans

  • Develop and post monthly activity calendars offering a well-rounded mix of recreational, social, cognitive, spiritual, and physical programming

  • Lead and facilitate group and one-on-one activities, including arts and crafts, games, music, exercise, and community outings

  • Coordinate special events, holiday celebrations, and family/resident engagement opportunities

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise activity assistants and volunteers

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team, including nursing, social services, dietary, and therapy staff, to support residents' overall care plans

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of resident participation, progress notes, and care plan updates in compliance with OBRA and CMS regulations

  • Manage the activities department budget and order supplies and equipment as needed

  • Participate in care plan meetings, interdisciplinary team meetings, and quality assurance reviews

  • Ensure the activities program and department records remain survey-ready at all times

  • Report any resident concerns or observations to the Director of Nursing or Administrator

Requirements

  • Current certification as an Activity Director/Activity Professional meeting state requirements (e.g., NCCAP Activity Director Certified (ADC) or equivalent state-approved certification)

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation, gerontology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered

  • Prior experience in activities programming within a long-term care or healthcare setting preferred

  • Working knowledge of OBRA regulations and CMS guidelines related to activities and life enrichment programming

  • Must be free of criminal activity proven by a criminal background check

  • Become familiar with and comply with all local, state, and federal regulations relating to the job

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills

  • CPR certification preferred
