Diesel Mechanic – Fleet Maintenance (Garbage Trucks)

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team and support our fleet of garbage trucks and heavy-duty equipment. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and hydraulic systems to ensure our fleet remains safe, reliable, and fully operational. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, safety-focused, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be available for on-call duties and maintain a flexible schedule to support fleet needs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform routine maintenance on heavy duty trucks and hydraulic refuse equipment.

• Ability to change brakes and tires.

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.

• Complete preventative maintenance (PM) schedules and document all work performed.

• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.

• Perform emergency roadside repairs when necessary, including during on-call periods.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.

• Collaborate with operations and drivers to identify vehicle issues and support fleet readiness.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

• Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostic software preferred

• Preferred experience working on garbage trucks or refuse equipment.

• Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a plus.

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Commitment to safety and high-quality workmanship.

• Must be willing to work an on-call rotation and maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
