Job Summary

The Concrete Lab Technician supports daily operations in the concrete laboratory by performing material testing, recording and analyzing data, maintaining testing equipment, and communicating results to project managers. This role helps ensure the quality of construction materials through laboratory testing while following company safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, enjoys hands-on work, and is interested in building knowledge of aggregate, soil, concrete, and masonry testing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work independently performing testing services in the following areas:
    • Perform laboratory testing.
    • Record data, and/or observations of construction materials, especially soil and aggregate.
    • Conduct test measurements, data reduction and compilation of data.
  • Assist in conducting laboratory evaluations of concrete and masonry products.
  • Report test results to project manager.
  • Communication with project manager.
  • Calibrate and maintain testing equipment in a clean working order.
  • Participate in continuing education endeavors such as obtaining certifications, seminars, classes, conferences, etc. to maintain position on leading edge of current technology.


Other Areas of Accountability

  • Conduct field, laboratory and office activities in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local regulations, along with AET’s QA and Health and Safety Policies, to promote the safety and protection of employees, clients and the public.
  • Increase proficiency in soils, concrete, and masonry testing.
  • Maintain the quality of service and work product.
  • Properly use and maintain company instruments and equipment.
  • Coordinate with other staff with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency, productivity, and communication.
  • Perform other tasks as necessary to meet departmental or company goals.


Required Qualifications & Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two-year technical degree in a related field is preferred, or 1+ year related experience is preferred; OR 6+ months previous experience as AET Trainee technician (intern/co-op).
  • Successful completion of technical surveillance is required in certain specialty areas.

  • Communication skills sufficient to work effectively with clients and coworkers.
  • Ability to interact successfully with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues and problems in a constructive manner, and work independently in the field.
  • Capable of the physical labor required, with personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to:
    • Frequently lift 30-60 pounds from the floor to 2 feet.
    • Occasionally lift 60-100 pounds from the floor to 2 feet.
    • Frequently carry 30-60 pounds for 10-30 feet.
    • Occasionally carry 60-100 pounds for 10-30 feet.


Pay Transparency 

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $23.00 – $26.00 per hour based on skill set and experience.
