An HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This role requires both technical expertise and a strong knowledge of HVAC systems and related equipment. The technician will work on various HVAC units, including residential, commercial, and industrial systems, ensuring that they operate efficiently and meet safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Setup
- Install heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in residential and commercial properties.
- Ensure systems are installed according to manufacturer specifications and local codes.
- Conduct system testing after installation to confirm proper operation.
- Maintenance & Inspection
- Perform regular maintenance on HVAC systems, including cleaning, tuning, and replacing parts such as filters, belts, and etc.
- Inspect HVAC systems to identify potential issues and recommend necessary repairs or upgrades.
- Keep detailed records of system maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Repairs
- Troubleshoot HVAC system issues, identify the root cause, and perform repairs to restore system functionality.
- Replace defective components or units, such as compressors, thermostats, motors, etc.
- Ensure that all repairs meet safety and regulatory standards.
- Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service by explaining issues and solutions clearly to customers.
- Offer advice and recommendations for system upgrades, energy-saving tips, or maintenance schedules.
- Address any customer concerns or questions professionally and promptly. System Diagnostics
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify system malfunctions.
- Test and calibrate systems to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of service work, repairs, and installations.
- Prepare detailed reports of the work performed, including any parts used, labor, and time spent.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a formal HVAC training program or apprenticeship is preferred but not required.
- Certifications:
- EPA 608 Certification (required for refrigerant handling)
- NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification is a plus.
- Experience:
- Proven experience working as an HVAC technician or in a related field.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, components, and tools.
- Experience with both residential and commercial HVAC systems is beneficial.
