YouthBuild Specialist

Essential Functions:

·       Program Recruitment & Documentation:  Responsible for recruiting participants into the program, managing workforce and educational activities, and maintaining accurate documentation to verify participant eligibility, track program progress, and measure performance.

·       Youth Services Coordination:  Coordinate and co-facilitate youth services, which include providing mentorship, instruction, monitoring, and support. Help young adults set goals and create actionable steps to achieve meaningful progress.

·       Instructional Teaching: Deliver lessons in core subjects for HSE, including: math, science, social studies and language arts.  Provide group and one-on-one instruction, tailored to young adults learning styles.  Assess progress during class and one-on-one instruction, using lesson activities, homework and practice tests. 

·       Team Collaboration: Work closely with all members of the JOG team to identify and implement best practices for supporting participants in achieving their goals.  Collaborate to remove barriers, ensure workforce readiness, and completion of HSE and all certifications. 

Job Responsibilities:

1. Develop of roster of eligible youth and establish meaningful relationship with young adults that build a foundation of trust, motivation and accountability. 

 2.  Screen and assess program participants through motivational interviewing, orientations and interpretation of assessment tools.

3.  Maintain weekly contact with active youth and months contact with youth in follow-up.

4.  Provide necessary services, including HSE teaching and JOG’s competency based curriculum, to enrolled young adults based on needs, that lead to the accomplishment of youth and organizational goals.

5.  Instruct objective driven lessons to young adults individually, in small or large groups, while adapting instruction methods to meet clients’ varying needs and interests. 

6.  Identify and mobilize available resources within the community and coordinate ancillary youth services/activities to further develop and progress young adults towards self-sufficiency and being one’s best self.  Activities may include, but not limited to: guest speakers, specialty workshops, field trips, job fairs, community service projects, etc.

7. Provide JOG services at designated location, which could include a county office, local school system and/or community based organization.

8. Track, monitor, and report youth contact, services, progress and attainments. 

9. Submit monthly and quarterly documentation to designee staff which includes, but not limited to: model services/case notes, mileage, timesheets (twice per month), EOM, youth attainments, etc.

10. Maintains confidentiality regarding all issues relative to client files and the organization’s operations. 

11.  Provide coverage as scheduled at JOG offices, and provide JOG programs and services to enrolled young adults. 

12.  Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

•       Position requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.

•       Must be able to communicate effectively to a group of individuals with varying skill levels

•       Computer skills including, but not limited to: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, online database management systems.

•       Work hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30 pm.

•       Onsite work location - Local, daytime travel within Summit County and occasionally required within a multi-county radius.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Work experience with private sector or disadvantaged youth.
