Job Description

The PET/CT Technician will primarily work in an outpatient imaging center, specializing in the operation and management of PET/CT imaging equipment. This role involves preparing patients for imaging procedures, acquiring high-quality diagnostic images, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The technician will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to support accurate diagnosis and patient care through precise imaging techniques.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for PET/CT imaging procedures
  • Operate PET/CT imaging equipment to acquire diagnostic images
  • Conduct quality control checks to maintain image accuracy
  • Analyze imaging data and ensure proper documentation
  • Maintain compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines
  • Keep accurate records of procedures and patient interactions
  • Assist patients throughout the imaging process, addressing any concerns
  • Prepare patients for PET/CT procedures by explaining the process, positioning them correctly, and ensuring their comfort throughout the scan.
  • Operate PET/CT imaging equipment with precision, adhering to manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Implement radiation safety procedures diligently, including proper shielding, dose management, and adherence to regulatory standards to protect patients and staff..
  • Insert IV lines skillfully for radiotracer administration, ensuring aseptic technique and patient safety at all times.
  • Monitor patients during scans, providing basic life support if necessary, and respond promptly to any adverse reactions or emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems and ensure images are correctly stored in Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
  • Collaborate with physicians and radiologists to ensure proper image quality for diagnostic evaluation, utilizing knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Conduct routine calibration and maintenance of PET scanners and other medical imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Uphold strict radiation safety procedures and implement best practices for nuclear medicine procedures involving radiotracers. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years experience in medical imaging
  • Specialized experience with PET/CT imagingequirements
  • REQUIREMENTS.
  • Certification or licensure as a Radiologic Technologist with specialized training in PET/CT imaging.
  • Proven experience operating medical imaging equipment such as PET scanners, CT units, SPECT scanners, and related diagnostic radiology tools.
  • Strong knowledge of radiation safety procedures, aseptic techniques, and nuclear medicine protocols.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation methods.
  • Ability to perform IV insertions accurately while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for documentation purposes.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications such as ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) preferred.
  • Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach to diverse patient needs.
  • Technical proficiency in operating complex medical imaging equipment and implementing radiation safety protocols effectively.
