We are seeking an experienced Intermodal / Drayage Dispatcher to manage daily driver scheduling, route planning, and dispatch operations. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of dispatch experience within the intermodal, drayage, transportation, or logistics industry and is comfortable managing and coaching a large team of drivers.

This position is responsible for coordinating daily workloads, planning incoming work, optimizing routes and loads, and ensuring efficient day-to-day dispatch operations.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, organize, and manage daily workloads and routes for drivers
  • Coordinate intermodal and drayage dispatch operations and incoming work
  • Plan and manage loads for cost effectiveness while minimizing dry runs, bobtails, demurrage, and per diem charges
  • Manage, coach, train, and hold drivers accountable for daily responsibilities and performance goals
  • Plan and oversee driver schedules and provide written and verbal instructions
  • Counsel and document driver performance and disciplinary matters when necessary
  • Provide input regarding driver hiring, performance, and termination decisions
  • Monitor daily dispatch operations and communicate updates to upper management through reports, emails, and meetings
  • Provide operational coverage when team members are absent or utilizing time off
  • Ensure operations comply with DOT regulations, OSHA requirements, hazardous materials guidelines, and applicable security procedures

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of Dispatcher experience in the intermodal and/or drayage industry
  • Strong knowledge of freight forwarding, transportation planning, logistics, and transportation industry terminology
  • Experience managing, coaching, and training drivers
  • Thorough knowledge of DOT rules and regulations, OSHA requirements, hazardous goods, and transportation safety practices
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced transportation environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively within a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and internet-based systems
  • PortPro software experience is a plus
