Engineer - Refrigeration Systems

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Refrigeration Systems Engineer to support the redesign, testing, and validation of self-contained refrigeration products. A key focus of this role will be transitioning existing refrigeration systems from R-134a to R-290 and addressing the component, performance, safety, and compliance requirements associated with the new refrigerant.

This position is ideal for an engineer with strong refrigeration-system knowledge who enjoys working directly with physical equipment, selecting components, testing systems, troubleshooting performance issues, and helping move redesigned products into production.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the redesign of refrigeration systems transitioning from R-134a to R-290 refrigerant.
• Evaluate and select compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, controls, and other refrigeration components.
• Build, test, troubleshoot, and validate refrigeration systems and prototypes.
• Analyze system performance and identify improvements related to efficiency, reliability, safety, quality, and cost.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration performance and component-related issues.
• Support refrigerant compliance, product safety reviews, and applicable UL requirements.
• Participate in product validation, risk assessments, and root-cause analysis.
• Work with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, suppliers, and engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
• Develop and maintain technical specifications, test documentation, and engineering records.
• Support products throughout redesign, testing, validation, and production implementation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred.
• 2+ years of experience working with refrigeration systems, refrigeration equipment, or related product development.
• Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and system performance.
• Hands-on experience with R-290 refrigeration systems strongly preferred.
• Experience selecting, testing, and troubleshooting refrigeration components.
• Familiarity with refrigeration product safety and UL standards.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hands-on engineering and testing environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and supplier teams.

Additional Details

• This is an onsite position in Avondale, PA.
• Monday–Friday, day-shift schedule.
• Little to no travel is expected.
• Contract/consulting engagement with an immediate need.
