Maintenance Electrician

Seeking experienced Industrial Maintenance Electrician. Journeyman card preferred. Strong troubleshooting skills required. PLC experience a plus

This position provides advanced electrical support within the Maintenance Department, troubleshooting complex equipment issues, repairing and maintaining electrical systems, and supporting PLC-controlled equipment and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Journeyman Maintenance Electrician partners with Maintenance, Engineering, and Production to keep manufacturing equipment safe, reliable, and efficient.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, install, and maintain industrial electrical systems and manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems up to and including 480V three-phase systems.
• Diagnose electrical and electronic failures using schematics, ladder diagrams, diagnostic equipment, and systematic troubleshooting techniques.
• Troubleshoot PLC-controlled machinery, including PLC inputs/outputs, field devices, communication issues, and control circuits.
• Connect to PLC systems to diagnose equipment faults and determine causes of machine failures.
• Troubleshoot and repair VFDs, servo drives, motors, motor controls, relays, contactors, sensors, switches, encoders, safety circuits, and other industrial electrical components.
• Troubleshoot robotic and automated manufacturing equipment.
• Read, understand, and utilize electrical schematics, ladder logic, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Install conduit, wiring, electrical panels, disconnects, motors, controls, sensors, and related electrical components.
• Perform preventive and predictive electrical maintenance according to established maintenance schedules.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production maintenance calls to minimize downtime.
• Independently diagnose complex electrical problems and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Perform root-cause analysis on repetitive equipment failures and recommend or implement permanent corrective actions.
• Modify and improve electrical controls and equipment to increase reliability, safety, productivity, and maintainability.
• Assist Engineering and Maintenance with equipment installations, modifications, upgrades, and new program launches.
• Support equipment commissioning and startup activities.
• Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support to other Maintenance personnel.
• Assist in developing the electrical skills and knowledge of apprentices and less-experienced Maintenance employees as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, equipment modifications, and preventive maintenance activities.
• Ensure electrical prints and documentation accurately reflect equipment modifications when applicable.
• Communicate equipment concerns, completed repairs, and required follow-up activities to Maintenance and Production leadership.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
• Follow all company safety policies, electrical safety practices, and Lockout/Tagout requirements.
• Perform other skilled-trades and maintenance duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• Recognized Journeyman Electrician certification/card or equivalent documented industrial electrical training and experience.
• Demonstrated industrial electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting.
• Strong working knowledge of 480V three-phase power and industrial control systems.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to read and troubleshoot from electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience troubleshooting motors, motor starters, VFDs, sensors, relays, contactors, and industrial control circuits.
• Ability to independently diagnose equipment failures using electrical test and diagnostic equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical and machine safety practices.
• Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout and hazardous-energy-control requirements.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root-cause problem-solving skills.

Preferred

• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, including ControlLogix and CompactLogix systems.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation controls and software.
• Experience troubleshooting and working with industrial robots.
• Experience with servo systems and motion controls.
• Experience with HMIs and industrial communication networks.
• Experience with automated assembly, machining, or material-handling equipment.
• Automotive manufacturing experience.
• Experience supporting equipment installations and manufacturing launches.

• Serve as a technical resource for Maintenance and Production personnel.
• Share knowledge and provide guidance to apprentices and less-experienced Maintenance employees.
• Proactively identify equipment reliability concerns and recommend improvements.
• Maintain a sense of urgency when responding to production downtime without compromising safety or repair quality.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce downtime, improve equipment reliability, and increase manufacturing efficiency.

Physical Requirements

• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, and working in confined or elevated areas.
• Using ladders and other approved access equipment.
• Lifting and moving tools, equipment, and materials.
• Working around operating machinery and manufacturing equipment.
• Working in varying temperatures, noise levels, and other conditions typical of an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Safety Responsibilities

• All work must be performed in accordance with company safety policies, applicable electrical safety requirements, and established safe-work practices.
• Properly follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, utilizing appropriate PPE, identifying and reporting electrical and machine-safety hazards, and ensuring equipment is returned to a safe operating condition following maintenance activities.

Work Schedule

Must be willing and able to work the assigned shift and support production requirements. Overtime, weekends, holidays, and alternate-shift coverage may be required based on business and production needs.
