Position Overview

Our client is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support an R&D team developing and testing advanced sensor-based systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with 3–5 years of experience who enjoys working directly with prototypes, fluidic systems, sensors, test equipment, and multidisciplinary hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test, optimize, and debug prototype sensor modules and systems.

  • Design and execute experiments involving fluidic and thermal systems.

  • Select, source, and order components for prototype builds.

  • Physically assemble fluid systems using pumps, tubing, fittings, flow cells, and related components.

  • Assemble multi-sensor prototypes incorporating mechanical components, PCBs, optics, probes, and fluidic systems.

  • Prepare samples and conduct controlled laboratory tests.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret sensor and test data to identify trends and improve system performance.

  • Perform hands-on electrical integration, including wiring, soldering, connector assembly, and basic signal verification.

  • Write, modify, and run Python scripts for data acquisition, processing, visualization, and test automation.

  • Troubleshoot issues across mechanical, fluidic, electrical, thermal, optical, and software systems.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, samples, test setups, and engineering documentation.

  • Work collaboratively with engineers and cross-functional teams to identify problems and develop practical solutions.

  • Document experimental methods, results, conclusions, and design changes.

  • Take ownership of assigned projects and work independently while communicating progress and technical findings to the broader team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

  • 3–5 years of hands-on engineering experience, ideally in an R&D, product development, prototyping, testing, or laboratory environment.

  • Demonstrated experience building, assembling, testing, and troubleshooting physical prototypes.

  • Hands-on experience with fluidic, pneumatic, hydraulic, or liquid-handling systems.

  • Experience working with components such as pumps, tubing, fittings, valves, flow cells, or similar fluid-system hardware.

  • Working knowledge of Python for scripting, test automation, data collection, or data processing.

  • Basic hands-on electrical integration and testing experience, including wiring, soldering, connectors, sensors, or signal verification.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Comfortable working hands-on in a lab/R&D environment, including working with liquids and coolant samples.

  • Ability to independently plan and execute experiments and use test results to drive engineering decisions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in medical devices, sensors, instrumentation, consumer hardware, appliances, semiconductor equipment, or other complex electromechanical products.

  • Experience with microfluidics, electrochemistry, optical sensing, or thermal management.

  • Familiarity with DAQ systems and laboratory instrumentation.

  • Experience with SolidWorks or other mechanical CAD platforms.

  • Experience with rapid prototyping, machining, 3D printing, or other fabrication methods.

  • Experience integrating mechanical, electrical, optical, and fluidic subsystems.

  • Experience with data visualization and analysis using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.

  • Strong systems-level approach to debugging complex hardware
