THE POSITION

Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), District 1 Materials Unit as a Transportation Technician and help support the quality of materials used in major transportation projects. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on inspecting construction materials, performing quality assurance tasks, and ensuring compliance with testing standards and contract specifications. As a Transportation Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Material Inspection: Verify materials delivered to projects meet specifications and include accurate documentation
  • Testing Oversight: Observe technicians performing tests and review compliance with Pennsylvania Test Method (PTM), American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM) standards
  • Field Monitoring: Closely observe construction and plant operations to ensure contract requirements are followed
  • Documentation Review: Enter information into electronic Construction and Materials Management System (eCAMMS) and maintain accurate sampling and testing records
  • Equipment Verification: Check calibration of Department and vendor equipment including scales and testing apparatus
  • Plan Interpretation: Read and interpret project plans and blueprints to confirm correct materials are used


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, Seasonal Adhoc up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license that is not under suspension.
