Job Description

Position Summary

The In-Person Tutor will provide direct, high-impact academic tutoring to students in grades 5–8 at assigned Pennsauken Public Schools sites during the school day. Tutors will deliver small-group instruction in either ELA or Math (not both) to help close significant academic gaps and accelerate student achievement toward grade-level proficiency.

  • Pennsauken Intermediate School (5th Grade Students)
  • Pennsauken Phifer Middle School (6th–8th Grade Students)

Sessions may take one of two formats:

  • Push-in: Tutoring is delivered within the classroom (e.g., in a corner of the room) during the student's regular class period.
  • Pull-out: The tutor and students relocate to a private location within the building for focused, small-group instruction.

Grade Levels, Ratios & Subject

  • Grade levels served: 5th through 8th grade.
  • Subject focus: Each student receives tutoring in either ELA or Math, not both.
  • Tutor-to-student ratio: 1 tutor to up to 3 students, not to exceed 4 students per group.
  • Most be available to work during the day between the hours of 9:00 AM EDT and 2:00 PM EDT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver small-group, high-impact tutoring sessions in ELA or Math to assigned students during the school day.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the needs of students performing two or more grade levels below expectations.
  • Track and monitor student progress toward grade-level proficiency and the program's 60% growth goal.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to align tutoring content with classroom instruction.
  • Maintain a supportive, engaging learning environment for both push-in and pull-out sessions.
  • Communicate regularly with program coordinators regarding student progress, attendance, and any concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of session attendance and student performance data.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively with students performing below grade level, including those with IEPs or who are multilingual learners.
  • Strong classroom management and small-group instructional skills.
  • Comfortable working in both push-in and pull-out instructional settings.
  • Reliable, in-person availability during the school day at assigned Pennsauken sites.
  • Background check and any district-required clearances as applicable.
