Location: Arlington Heights, Illinois, with local travel throughout nearby communities

Compensation: $85,000–$92,000 annually
Job Type: Full-time

Position Overview

Avento Health is recruiting a Registered Nurse for a full-time, community-based nursing opportunity supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Arlington Heights area.

This is a non-bedside nursing role combining clinical assessment, care coordination, medication oversight, health advocacy, and staff education. The RN works independently in community-based settings while collaborating with healthcare providers, pharmacies, families, guardians, direct-care staff, and other members of the care team.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, generally 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with significant flexibility based on appointments, individual needs, and clinical responsibilities. Local travel is required throughout Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Wilmette, Niles, Skokie, and surrounding areas, with mileage reimbursement for approved work-related travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing assessment, clinical oversight, and health-support services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Assess changes in physical or mental condition and provide appropriate nursing guidance and follow-up.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to direct-care staff regarding medical concerns and individual health needs.
  • Train and support staff in medication administration and individualized health procedures.
  • Coordinate medical, laboratory, dental, pharmacy, and other healthcare needs.
  • Review physician orders, medication records, and clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Administer scheduled or PRN medications when required and consistent with physician orders.
  • Monitor health status, medication response, and changes in condition.
  • Complete nursing assessments, nursing notes, health-risk documentation, and other required records accurately and on time.
  • Communicate relevant changes to physicians, families, guardians, staff, and other members of the care team.
  • Provide education regarding medical conditions, specialized diets, seizure disorders, choking risks, adaptive equipment, and other health needs.
  • Provide clinical guidance during urgent situations as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Valid driver's license, current automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to obtain Illinois RN-Trainer certification if not already certified.
  • Strong nursing assessment, clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to educate and provide clinical guidance to direct-care staff.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally throughout the assigned service area.

Why Consider This Opportunity

  • Monday–Friday daytime schedule, generally 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Significant flexibility based on appointments and clinical responsibilities.
  • Community-based, non-bedside nursing environment.
  • Opportunity to build ongoing relationships with individuals rather than managing a hospital patient assignment.
  • RN-Trainer certification may be obtained after hire.
  • Mileage reimbursement for approved work-related travel.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Continuing-education support for approved professional development.

Additional Information

Occasional on-call consultation or response to urgent clinical situations may be required based on program and individual needs.
