Physical Therapy Assistant Position Summary
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) is responsible for assisting with the direction, modification, and administration of physical therapy modalities as supervised by a Physical Therapist. This role involves administering treatments and physical agents based on evaluations made by the Physical Therapist. The PTA contributes to the restoration of patient functioning to prevent disabilities following injury, disease, or physical limitations. They support patients in achieving their maximum performance and functioning levels while helping them adapt to their capabilities. Additionally, the PTA participates in the operational aspects of the department, engages in performance improvement activities, and complies with infection control and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Administer physical therapy treatments and modalities as directed by a Physical Therapist.
- Assist with patient evaluations and treatment planning.
- Support patients in their rehabilitation process, focusing on restoring functionality.
- Participate in departmental operational activities and performance improvement initiatives.
- Engage in training related to departmental equipment and safety procedures.
- Work with a diverse patient population, including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Graduated from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)-accredited physical therapy assistant education program, typically a two-year degree covering essential topics such as anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
- Must be licensed in good standing as a Physical Therapist Assistant in Alaska or have appropriate paperwork completed to work as a Student Physical Therapist Assistant.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Holiday coverage may be required for this role.
