Job Description

Fire Alarm / Access Control Technician — Experienced

Know Your Trade? We Want to Talk.

Axcex Media LLC is a nationwide systems integrator headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. Since 2007, we've installed and supported communications, security, life-safety, electrical, and technology systems for healthcare facilities, data centers, commercial facilities, hospitality, professional sports, and other demanding environments.

We're looking for an experienced Fire Alarm / Access Control Technician who can do more than pull cable.

We need someone who understands the systems, can troubleshoot problems, takes pride in workmanship, and can be trusted to represent Axcex professionally in front of our customers.

What We're Looking For

You should have hands-on experience with fire alarm and/or commercial access control systems, including several of the following:

  • Installation, service, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm systems
  • Installation and service of commercial access control systems
  • Control panels, power supplies, relays, modules, and field devices
  • Card readers, request-to-exit devices, door contacts, electric strikes, magnetic locks, and electrified hardware
  • Fire alarm initiating and notification devices
  • Reading drawings, risers, wiring diagrams, and project documentation
  • Device addressing, testing, troubleshooting, and system verification
  • Diagnosing wiring, power, communication, and device problems
  • Proper cable installation, termination, labeling, and testing
  • Working around other trades and coordinating work in active facilities
  • Completing work neatly, correctly, and professionally

Experience with system programming, commissioning, inspections, testing, or manufacturer-specific platforms is a major plus.

NICET certification is a plus, but demonstrated ability matters to us.

We're Looking for a Technician, Not Just a Résumé

Years of experience matter.

What you can actually do matters more.

We value technicians who can walk into a problem, think through it, troubleshoot it logically, and get the job done correctly.

We expect craftsmanship. We expect accountability. We expect accurate timekeeping and communication. We expect you to take care of our customers and take pride in putting your name—and ours—on your work.

In return, you should expect the same accountability from us.

We're human. We've made mistakes as a company, and we'll make more. When we're wrong, we expect ourselves to own it, learn from it, and get better.

We expect the same from our people.

Travel

This position is based in the Richmond, Virginia area, but Axcex performs work throughout Virginia and across the country.

Travel is part of what we do.

Depending on project needs, travel may range from local and regional work to overnight and multi-day assignments. Candidates must be comfortable traveling when required.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated fire alarm and/or access control experience
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass required background checks
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and required drug testing
  • Compliance with our 100% tobacco-free workplace policy
  • Ability to perform physical installation work and work at heights
  • Ability to lift and handle tools, ladders, equipment, and installation materials
  • Professional appearance and conduct when working at customer facilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to document work and communicate problems clearly
  • Willingness to travel as required

What You Can Expect From Us

We're not interested in hiring an experienced technician and treating you like you don't know anything.

Bring us what you know.

We'll give you opportunities to learn what you don't.

Axcex is growing, and we're interested in people who want more than their next job. A strong technician can develop into a lead technician, system specialist, supervisor, project manager, or other leadership role as ability and opportunity align.

We don't promise promotions simply for showing up.

We believe responsibility should follow demonstrated ability.

Want to Know What We're Really Like?

Don't rely solely on a job advertisement written by the company trying to hire you.

Ask us.

Ask about the work. Ask about travel. Ask about management. Ask about our expectations. Ask about advancement. Ask the uncomfortable questions.

We want you to know what you're getting into before you accept a job with us.

We're not trying to hire everyone.

We're trying to find the right people.

Relentless. Resilient. Right.
