Lifeguard

The Mystic Valley YMCA Aquatics Department is hiring part time certified lifeguards. 

Please note: AN ACTIVE LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED. 
You must be fully certified prior to applying.

Salary Range: $16.00 To $20.00 Hourly 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

1. Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
2. Know and review all safety rules, policies, guidelines, and emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; complete related reports as required.
3. Ensure every child connects with their guardian after their swim class.
4. Remain calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
5. Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code. 
6. Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
7. Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and take appropriate action.
8. Assist with the cleaning of the Aquatics Center when not guarding.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• ACTIVE LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED. If you are not certified, please check our program booklet for the next available certification course. 
• Minimum age of 16; 18 years old for opening lifeguard 
• Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration and current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

• Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
• Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. 
• Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness. 
• See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.

• In person interview & Lifeguard prerequisite swim test
• CORI/SORI checks
• If hired, 
  • Certifications must be submitted before start date
  • Lifeguard Orientation/Training 
  • Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
