Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Facility Maintenance Professional to join our dedicated team at Meraki Youth Homes. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of our four residential facilities. This role includes outdoor and indoor maintenance all times of the year. We operate a welcoming, licensed group home serving 10 youth per house. Our residents thrive in a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment, and we’re looking for a reliable, compassionate handyman to keep it that way.
Part and full time flexible.
Duties
- Maintenance: Perform routine and preventive maintenance: plumbing (fix leaks, clogs, toilet removal and reinstall;), electrical (outlets, light fixtures, fans), carpentry (doors, shelves, drywall patches, trim repair), painting, appliance repair.
- Respond promptly to resident/staff repair requests with patience and respect.
- Furniture maintenance and repairs.
- Yard work and grounds maintenance: mow lawn, trim hedges, weed flower beds, rake leaves, spread mulch, maintain walkways, clean gutters, and perform seasonal tasks (e.g., leaf blowing, basic sprinkler checks).
- Clean, organize houses and garages: sweep floors, remove debris, organize tools and storage, dispose of hazardous materials safely, and maintain clear, safe access.
- Supervise vehicle maintenance program: schedule oil changes, tire rotations, inspections, and repairs for 9 facility vans; service records; coordinate with mechanics; ensure vehicles are clean, and road-ready for resident transport.
- Conduct house and vehicle inspections: perform weekly full-property walk-throughs (interior/exterior) and weekly vehicle safety checks (brakes, lights, fluids, tires, cleanliness); document findings, prioritize repairs, and report to management.
- Maintain accurate logs of repairs, parts, warranties, vehicle service history, and inspection reports.
- Coordinate with external contractors when needed.
- Conduct monthly safety inspections (smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, exits).
- Change AC filters.
Qualifications
- 2+ years proven facilities maintenance experience (residential or healthcare settings a plus).
- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, basic landscaping/yard tools (mower, trimmer, blower), safe cleaning practices, fleet/vehicle maintenance coordination, and systematic inspection protocols.
- Valid driver’s license and clean background check (required for vulnerable populations).
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions.
- Strong English communication skills and comfort interacting with residents who may have limited verbal abilities.
- Reliable transportation and basic tool kit (larger equipment, yard tools, cleaning supplies, diagnostic tools, and inspection checklists provided).
