Mission

QSAC is a New York City and Long Island based nonprofit that supports children and adults with autism, together with their families, in achieving greater independence, realizing their future potential, and contributing to their communities in a meaningful way by offering person-centered services.  QSAC pursues this mission through direct services that provide a supportive and individualized setting for children and adults with autism to improve their communication, socialization, academic, and functional skills.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

QSAC is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic PT Occupational Therapist (OT) to work with children and young adults.  This opportunity is located at our Whitestone Day School.

The PT OT will follow a treatment plan/IEP goals developed to improve, develop, restore, or maintain opportunities for active participation in self-maintenance, work, leisure, and play for the students we support.  OT’s will also provide education and training to Occupational Therapy Assistants.

Responsibilities

Treatment Plans & Supervision

  • Direct service according to a written treatment plan/IEP that the OT develops
  • Recommend modification of treatment approaches to reflect the student’s changing needs
  • Develop appropriate plans for the students being supported
  • OT’s will provide collaborative education and supervision services to promote best practices and professional growth to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Communication & Administration 

  • Communicates and interacts with other team members, school personnel, and families
  • Develop and maintain a daily schedule, which includes sites, students/classrooms and other activities/duties
  • Maintain and records accurate records and documentation
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality, attendance, and flexibility, while working cooperatively with Supervisors and other employees

Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program required
  • Current New York State OT license to practice required
  • Experience working with people with autism highly preferred 
  • One to three years’ experience working as an OT in a related setting preferred
