THE POSITION

Join the Department of Human Services (DHS) at the Ebensburg Center as a Carpenter 1 and take part in meaningful projects that support residents and staff. This position gives you the chance to work with wood, masonry, and concrete while completing a wide range of repairs and construction tasks. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position performs carpentry and masonry work across the Ebensburg Center, helping maintain safe and functional buildings and equipment. The work relies on skilled craftsmanship and steady attention to repair, construction, and preventive maintenance. As a Carpenter 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Wood Construction: Build, repair, and maintain wooden structures such as floors, roofs, cabinets, decks, and walls
  • Masonry Work: Lay brick, stone, tile, and concrete, and construct arches, chimneys, partitions, and other masonry features
  • Tool Operation: Use pneumatic and manual tools to break plaster, tile, stone, and concrete as needed
  • Preventive Maintenance: Complete routine repairs and upkeep on doors, windows, locks, screens, roofs, spouting, and related equipment
  • Furniture and Equipment: Repair wooden and metal furniture, construct program equipment, and support enrichment needs across the Center

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating holiday schedule and one weekend per month. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.
  • Overtime and travel as needed
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Building Trades Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience in the construction, installation, repair, restoration, or maintenance of structures and articles made from wood, composite, and wood substitute materials; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
