THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports groundwater protection and environmental regulation through hydrogeological expertise and field investigations. It combines technical analysis, coordination, and problem solving to ensure responsible environmental oversight. As a Licensed Professional Geologist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Field Investigations: Conduct site inspections, gather groundwater data, and document local geologic conditions
  • Data Analysis: Evaluate hydrogeological information, interpret maps and logs, and prepare clear technical reports
  • Technical Reviews: Assess environmental proposals and groundwater studies to determine accuracy and compliance
  • Complaint Response: Address groundwater and stray gas concerns, as well as contribute to decisions regarding remediation needs
  • Technical Guidance: Provide expertise to staff, management, and the public regarding groundwater issues and regulatory requirements

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position services the following counties: Beaver, Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Fayette, Westmoreland, Cambria, Somerset
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $70,592.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • All positions require possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
