Job Summary
The Traveling Data Center Superintendent leads structured cabling and low voltage infrastructure projects within enterprise, hyperscale, and mission-critical data center environments. This position provides hands-on field supervision, coordinates technicians, foremen, and subcontractors, and ensures installations meet project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, budgets, and schedules. The Superintendent serves as a key field contact for project stakeholders while maintaining compliance with BICSI, OSHA, and applicable industry standards. This role requires extensive structured cabling experience, proven field leadership, and the ability to travel to project sites as required.
Job Responsibilities
Lead daily field operations for structured cabling and low voltage projects within active data center environments.
Supervise and coordinate on-site teams of 10 or more technicians, foremen, and subcontractors.
Review and interpret project blueprints, installation plans, specifications, and scope documents.
Oversee structured cabling installations and verify workmanship meets BICSI and applicable industry standards.
Monitor project milestones, identify schedule deviations, and coordinate corrective actions to meet project deadlines.
Inspect cable tray, ladder rack, fiber routing, MDF/IDF buildouts, and related physical infrastructure.
Review, update, and redline as-built drawings and project documentation.
Mentor junior team members and support technical training and workforce development.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide clear direction and feedback to field personnel.
Enforce site-specific safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and established workplace policies.
Conduct jobsite safety audits and toolbox talks.
Address safety incidents promptly and complete required documentation.
Serve as a primary field contact for project managers, general contractors, client representatives, and other project stakeholders.
Communicate project progress, risks, field conditions, and proposed solutions clearly and professionally.
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas within active data center environments.
Job Requirements
7+ years of experience in structured cabling or low voltage installation, including at least 3 years of supervisory or field leadership experience.
Experience working in data center, mission-critical, or comparable critical infrastructure construction environments.
Strong knowledge of BICSI standards and data center construction practices.
Experience with cable tray, ladder racks, fiber routing systems, and MDF/IDF buildouts.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, installation plans, and scope documents.
Ability to redline as-built drawings and maintain accurate field documentation.
OSHA 10 certification preferred.
Lift, fall protection, and confined space certifications are preferred.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and field activities in deadline-driven environments.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on ladders or lifts as required.
Ability to stand, walk, and perform field duties for extended periods.
Ability to travel to assigned project sites as required.
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
