Electrical Engineer II – Power Systems & Heavy Equipment
Direct Hire | Plymouth, MN | $80k – $100k
Position Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer II to design and develop electrical power and electromechanical systems used in heavy industrial and mobile equipment.
This is primarily an electrical design and power systems engineering role, with a stronger focus on power generation, electrical distribution, motor controls, and equipment integration than PLC programming.
The Engineer will develop electrical system architectures, design power distribution systems, evaluate equipment modifications, validate designs, and work with engineers, designers, manufacturing, and customers to deliver reliable equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical power and electromechanical systems for heavy industrial equipment.
- Develop system architectures and detailed electrical designs based on project requirements.
- Design and integrate 480VAC power generation and distribution systems.
- Work with engine/generator controls, motor controls, variable-speed drives, and electrical traction systems.
- Develop electrical schematics and support system integration and equipment modifications.
- Evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of new and modified equipment designs.
- Validate electrical designs through engineering analysis, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Occasionally support equipment inspections, testing, or troubleshooting in a railroad/heavy-equipment environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BS EE) – required.
- 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining electrical or electromechanical system designs.
- Experience with industrial electrical systems and equipment.
- Strong understanding of electrical power systems and electrical design principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams.
