Job Description
ASPYRE of Waukegan is seeking a motivated and creative Activity Director to lead the planning and execution of engaging programs that enhance our residents’ quality of life. The Activity Director is responsible for creating a positive and welcoming environment where residents can remain active, engaged, and connected while supporting their social, mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
ResponsibilitiesPlan, organize, and oversee individual and group activities for residents.
Develop and maintain monthly and weekly activity calendars based on resident interests, abilities, and needs.
Lead and supervise activity staff, aides, and volunteers.
Encourage consistent resident participation and engagement in activities.
Maintain accurate activity documentation, attendance records, and resident assessments.
Coordinate special events, community outings, entertainment, and holiday programs.
Collaborate with nursing, therapy, social services, and other departments to support resident needs.
Organize activities that promote socialization, cognitive stimulation, physical activity, and emotional well-being.
Manage activity department supplies, inventory, and budget.
Maintain organized, safe, and engaging activity spaces.
Ensure activity programs and documentation comply with applicable state and federal regulations.
Build positive relationships with residents and their families.
Perform other duties as assigned by facility leadership.
Certified Activity Director required.
High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Recreation Therapy or a related field preferred.
Previous experience leading activities in a healthcare or skilled nursing facility required.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to develop and lead engaging programs for residents with varying interests and abilities.
Creative, compassionate, energetic, and resident-focused approach.
Ability to work effectively with residents, families, staff, and volunteers.
Knowledge of activity programming requirements in a skilled nursing environment preferred.
