Fleet Safety Officer

Snapshot / Role Overview

We're looking for a Fleet Safety Officer in the San Jose area to build and lead a proactive fleet safety program for an HVAC service operation running more than 350 vehicles across the Bay Area.

Impact

• Reduce preventable accidents and driver injuries.
• Strengthen DOT, DMV, OSHA, and insurance compliance.
• Improve driver behavior through data-driven coaching.
• Give leadership clear fleet risk reporting.

Responsibilities

• Develop fleet safety procedures aligned with DOT, DMV, OSHA, and insurance requirements.
• Deliver driver training on defensive driving, backing, loading, and distraction.
• Review telematics and dashcam data for unsafe trends.
• Investigate incidents and determine preventability and corrective action.
• Monitor driver qualification files, license status, and MVR compliance.
• Observe drivers at service locations and job sites.
• Present monthly fleet safety reports and KPIs.

Must-Haves

• Experience managing fleet safety for a large vehicle fleet.
• Working knowledge of DOT and DMV compliance.
• Comfort with telematics and dashcam platforms.

Nice-to-Haves

• Safety certification such as CSP or ASP.
• Experience in a service contractor environment.

Compensation and Logistics

Competitive salary depending on experience, plus benefits. Based in the San Jose area with field observation across the region.
