CT Technologist Job Description

The CT Technologist is responsible for performing computed tomography procedures and related techniques, administering x-radiation to produce diagnostic images for physician interpretation. This position requires the ability to alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, and take call, along with the flexibility to adjust hours and work overtime as necessary to ensure quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic CT procedures with precision and care.
• If assigned radiographer duties, conduct radiographic, fluoroscopic, surgical, and portable radiographic exams.
• Corroborate patient's clinical history with the procedure, ensuring documentation is available for the radiologist's use.
• Prepare patients for procedures by providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
• Select and operate imaging equipment, image capture devices, and accessories to successfully perform procedures.
• Position patients to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting their comfort; immobilize patients as necessary.
• Practice aseptic techniques as required.
• Prepare and administer contrast media as appropriate for the performed procedures; start and maintain intravenous access.
• Initiate basic life support actions when necessary.
• Provide education to patients regarding procedures.
• Contribute to supply and equipment decisions, maintaining control of inventory and supplies for the assigned area.
• Provide practical instruction for students and team members.
• Observe universal protocols, standard precautions, and ensure appropriate patient identifiers are in place.
• Apply principles of patient safety throughout all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.

Education and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited radiography program; education verification is required.
• Minimum of 2 years of CT experience is required.

Certifications and Licensure

• ARRT Radiography registration is required.
• ARRT Computed Tomography registration is required.
• IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation is required.
• Current CPR or BLS certification is required.

Shift Information

• 4 - 9-hour night shifts with weekend, on-call, and holiday rotation required.
• Holiday coverage is required.
