TEMPORARY LABORATORY ANALYST

ESS is seeking a Temporary Laboratory Analyst to assist with laboratory operations and environmental sample analysis.

The selected candidate will support a professional laboratory team with the testing and documentation of environmental samples. This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with laboratory procedures, sample handling, data entry, quality control, and regulatory documentation.

The Laboratory Analyst will receive training from experienced laboratory staff and will work under technical direction while assisting with routine laboratory activities and special projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with specially assigned laboratory projects and time-sensitive assignments.
• Assist with environmental sample collection and related field sampling activities.
• Assist with chemical, biological, and bacteriological testing and analysis of environmental samples.
• Assist with sample preparation, reagent preparation, sample preservation, and sample storage.
• Assist with the setup and use of portable sampling equipment.
• Enter analytical results and monitoring information into established databases.
• Assist with data review and analysis using established procedures.
• Complete worksheets, log sheets, and other routine laboratory documentation.
• Assist with sample login and tracking procedures.
• Prepare and maintain sample documentation and chain-of-custody records.
• Accurately record laboratory data and test results.
• Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
• Perform other laboratory-related duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous laboratory, environmental, science, or related experience is preferred but not required.
• Coursework or education in biology, chemistry, environmental science, laboratory science, or a related field is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Comfortable working with data, documentation, and computer-based systems.
• Dependable and able to maintain consistent attendance.
• Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
• Willingness to learn laboratory procedures, testing methods, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to regularly lift up to 10 pounds.
• Must be able to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform routine laboratory activities.
• Ability to work in an environmental laboratory setting and participate in occasional sample collection activities.

Training & Development

The selected candidate will receive hands-on training from experienced laboratory personnel. Training may include laboratory procedures, environmental sample handling, testing methods, documentation, data entry, quality control practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Schedule

• 32–40 hours per week
• Minimum of 32 hours per week
• Schedule may vary based on operational needs.
