Job Description

Express Employment Professionals is adding a skilled Plant Power & Controls Electrician to support a major industrial client. If you want dependable hours, strong wages, steady overtime, and the satisfaction of keeping essential U.S. industries running, this role stands out.

What a day looks like

You begin with a pre-shift safety walk, documenting conditions per federal mining regulations. A motor drive shows abnormal readings, so you verify lockout/tagout, pull diagnostics with your meter and megger, isolate the fault, replace components, and confirm proper performance. Later, you install new conduit and wiring for a system upgrade, then assist mechanics by isolating and locking out a drive, disconnecting motor leads, and preparing equipment for safe disassembly. You finish by tidying your area to remove slip, trip, and fall hazards and noting any issues for the next shift.

Impact you’ll make
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair plant electrical systems: motors, generators, AC/DC starters, breakers, lighting, conduit/wiring, and control systems.
  • Execute routine and preventive maintenance on electrical and drive systems to maximize reliability; identify and report malfunctioning equipment.
  • Use meters, meggers, and diagnostic tools to pinpoint issues and verify system health.
  • Install new electrical equipment for construction, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Perform safety inspections at least once per shift in line with federal mining regulations; conduct additional checks as conditions require.
  • Assist mechanical teams when needed: isolate/lock out drives, disconnect motor leads, and prep equipment for safe teardown.
  • Operate mobile equipment when necessary, following MSHA-required task training and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a complete set of required tools within 90 days of assignment (tool list provided upon hire).
  • Keep work areas clean and hazard-free through diligent housekeeping.
What you bring
  • Strong electrical knowledge, excellent troubleshooting skills, and solid mechanical aptitude.
  • Proven reliability, excellent attendance, and a strong safety record.
  • Ability to perform arc welding and operate cutting torches when required.
  • Comfort working independently with minimal supervision and communicating clearly with your team.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of mobile equipment used across plant operations.
Education & experience
  • 3–5 years of verifiable experience as an industrial electrician in mining or heavy industry.
  • Proficiency using and caring for electrical meters, megger testing, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with AC/DC starters, variable speed drives, and power distribution systems.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred.
Pay & growth
  • Pay: $40.02
  • Excellent benefits, performance-based raises, and career development opportunities.
Technologies you’ll work with
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
