Construction Controller

Snapshot / Role Overview

We're seeking a Construction Controller in the Houston area to lead multi-entity accounting for a growing commercial mechanical contractor working across HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, refrigeration, boilers, and chillers.

Impact

• Give operations leaders real-time visibility into project financial health.
• Protect margins on complex piping, sheet metal, and refrigeration work.
• Build a regional accounting team for continued Texas expansion.
• Turn financial data into decisions with senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end and year-end close across multiple Texas entities.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance reports.
• Maintain WIP schedules, job cost tracking, and over and under billing analysis.
• Ensure GAAP compliance, including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Manage and mentor regional accounting staff with clear workflows.
• Partner with operations on chiller, boiler, and piping project financials.

Must-Haves

• Controller-level experience in construction or mechanical contracting.
• Hands-on WIP, job cost, and percentage-of-completion expertise.
• Experience leading a small accounting team.

Nice-to-Haves

• CPA or CCIFP.
• Experience with construction ERP systems such as Sage or Vista.

Compensation and Logistics

Competitive salary depending on experience, plus benefits. Onsite in the Houston area.
