The Food Safety Coordinator will work closely with employees, managers, vendors, and auditors to ensure food safety requirements and company procedures are understood, followed, and consistently maintained. A key part of this role is partnering with operational teams to turn food safety requirements into practical day-to-day processes while building understanding, engagement, and consistent execution across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the daily administration and oversight of the company’s SQF and food safety programs.
- Maintain and update food safety policies, procedures, manuals, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and other required documentation.
- Assist with the annual reassessment of SQF and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) programs.
- Conduct internal audits, document findings, and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage food safety verification and validation activities.
- Monitor warehouse operations to confirm that food safety policies and procedures are consistently followed.
- Develop and deliver training on food safety, food defense, Good Distribution Practices (GDPs), and related requirements.
- Prepare documentation and support regulatory, customer, and third-party audits.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready compliance records.
- Track and analyze food safety and compliance metrics, identify trends, and communicate findings.
- Partner with Operations, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Equipment teams to address food safety concerns and maintain SQF requirements.
- Promote employee awareness and help strengthen a companywide culture of food safety.
- Support other compliance initiatives, including DOT and OSHA requirements, as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail and consistent follow-through.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with frontline employees, management, vendors, customers, and auditors.
- Ability to build productive working relationships across departments.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Ability and willingness to learn company systems, including Produce Pro.
- Bilingual English and Spanish skills are preferred.
- Previous experience in food distribution, foodservice, produce, manufacturing, quality assurance, or a warehouse environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with SQF, HACCP, food safety, sanitation, or regulatory compliance programs is a plus.
