Qualifications for Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist
Required: Direct service experience with clients who have mental illness.
- AA + 6 years related experience, OR
- BA in psychology/social work or related field + 4 years experience, OR
- MA in psychology/social work or related field + 2 years experience.
Paid Two-Week Training and Onboarding Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm *Time subject to change
Extensive paid training will be provided, requiring candidates to be fully available for the entire two-week training period, which will be conducted in person. This training will cover essential youth care worker duties, PRO-ACT, Naloxone (NARCAN) training, and crises response to ensure you are well-equipped to deliver high-quality care.
Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist to work with youth ages 12 to 18 in our Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP). This role involves direct service delivery to clients with mental illness in a structured, trauma-informed environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individual and group rehabilitation sessions focused on improving functional and interpersonal skills.
- Provide one-on-one behavioral coaching, modeling coping strategies, and reinforcing positive behaviors.
- Develop and implement individualized service plans.
- Implement behavioral interventions and safety protocols as needed.
- Collaborate with therapists, families, and treatment teams.
- Complete daily documentation and maintain productivity standards.
- Maintain compliance with confidentiality, HIPAA, and ethical standards.
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation.
Education with Experience Requirements:
- Direct service experience with clients who have mental illness
- AA + 6 years related experience, OR
- BA in psychology/social work or related field + 4 years experience, OR
- MA in psychology/social work or related field + 2 years experience.
Additional Requirements:
- A working knowledge of conducting individual and group rehabilitation sessions for those with a history of mental illness and their families.
- Strong understanding of mental health counseling principles and practices.
- Familiarity with Medi-Cal documentation and recovery-oriented services.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work full-time and participate in on-call rotation
- Valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record to Agency’s insurance carrier
- Must be 21+ years old
- Pass background checks ( DOJ, FBI, and Child Abuse Index clearance) required
- Current CPR/First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Must complete Pro-ACT certification within 30 days of hire
Preferred:
- Experience in group homes, hospitals, day treatment centers, or SED classrooms.
- Prior experience with Exym.
