We are seeking an experienced Facilities Security Officer (FSO) to establish and lead the company's security function across its laboratory and manufacturing operations.

This is a newly created position and an excellent opportunity for a security professional who enjoys building programs, identifying vulnerabilities, developing policies, and creating structure from the ground up.

The FSO will be responsible for protecting personnel, facilities, property, intellectual property, and controlled information while supporting compliance with government, customer, and federal security requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a background in government, defense, military, industrial, or highly regulated security environments and be comfortable both enforcing security requirements and working collaboratively with employees and leadership.

• Build, develop, and oversee the company's overall security program.
• Establish and maintain security policies, procedures, and Standard Practice Procedures (SPPs).
• Evaluate existing security practices and identify gaps, vulnerabilities, and opportunities for improvement.
• Oversee physical security for the Portland facility and provide support to the Albany facility.
• Manage access control, badging, cameras, facility security systems, and daily security activities.
• Assess physical security vulnerabilities involving fencing, unauthorized access, cameras, facility access, and other areas.
• Develop and maintain security programs supporting government contracts.
• Ensure compliance with applicable NISPOM / 32 CFR Part 117 and other DoD security requirements.
• Support compliance involving classified information, CUI, ITAR/export-controlled information, PII, SSI, and other controlled information.
• Support Facility Clearance (FCL), FOCI, COMSEC, and related government security requirements as applicable.
• Conduct security self-inspections, audits, assessments, and corrective-action activities.
• Interpret government and customer security requirements and communicate them throughout the organization.
• Identify security risks and recommend practical solutions to leadership.
• Develop procedures for employee accountability and facility security during emergencies.
• Support security incident response, investigations, and threat-management activities.
• Coordinate with Operations, HR, Safety/EHS, IT, and other departments on security matters.
• Maintain professional relationships with government representatives, customers, law enforcement, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Help establish a security culture where employees and leadership understand and follow security requirements.
• Confidently enforce security policies while maintaining strong working relationships throughout the organization.

• 3+ years of relevant government, defense, military, or highly regulated security experience.
• Approximately 10+ years of overall security industry experience is preferred, but the quality and relevance of experience are more important than simply years.
• Experience managing or supporting facility, physical, personnel, and/or information security programs.
• Experience with NISPOM / 32 CFR Part 117 or comparable defense/government security requirements.
• Experience supporting DoD, military, federal, or government contracts.
• Strong understanding of security policies, procedures, compliance, and enforcement.
• Experience developing policies, procedures, SPPs, or security programs.
• Ability to assess security vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
• Comfortable working with security technology, including cameras, access control, badging, and related systems.
• Strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to confidently enforce security requirements and hold employees and leadership accountable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and time-sensitive security matters.

Candidates do not need laboratory or chemistry experience to be considered. Relevant security experience in a defense, government, manufacturing, chemical, industrial, or other regulated environment may be highly transferable.

This role requires someone who can be assertive without being abrasive.

The FSO will need to communicate security requirements clearly, address non-compliance, and hold employees and leadership accountable while maintaining positive working relationships across the organization.

We're looking for someone who can confidently say, "This is a security requirement, and here's why," while also having the judgment and interpersonal skills to work through challenging situations effectively.

The FSO will primarily support the Portland, Oregon facility, which is approximately 5–6 acres.

The role may also require periodic travel to the company's Albany, Oregon facility, approximately 71 miles from Portland.

• Travel is expected to primarily be day trips, rather than overnight travel.
• Approximately $100–$150 per day is available for applicable travel expenses/per diem.
• The FSO will be responsible for supporting security across both facilities as needed.

• U.S. citizenship is required due to government contract requirements.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
• Selected candidates will be subject to applicable government security investigations and eligibility requirements.

A college degree is preferred but not required.

A degree in Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field is a plus, but relevant security experience can substitute for a specific degree.

Lacamas Laboratories is open to qualified candidates relocating to the Portland area.

• Up to $10,000 in relocation assistance is the initial expectation.
• For an exceptional candidate, the company indicated potential flexibility up to approximately $15,000.

Candidates traveling from outside the area may also be eligible for company-paid flight, hotel, meals, and travel expenses for an onsite second-round interview.
