Mid-LevelIndustry: Heavy Civil Construction / Infrastructure\nPosition Overview\nWe are seeking an experienced and analytical Heavy Civil Construction Estimator - Mid-Level to join our estimating team in Hudson, Massachusetts.\nThis position offers an opportunity to play a critical role in developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive bids for major heavy civil infrastructure projects, including dams, bridges, highways, and other complex transportation and public works projects.\nThe ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of heavy highway and/or bridge construction estimating experience and a strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, quantity take-offs, cost analysis, subcontractor and vendor pricing, risk assessment, and bid development.\nAs a Mid-Level Estimator, you will work closely with Estimating, Project Management, Operations, vendors, subcontractors, and company leadership to develop bids for projects generally ranging from $5 million to $40 million.\nThis is a hands-on position where your ability to analyze complex project documents, identify construction requirements, accurately develop quantities and costs, and understand project risks will directly contribute to the company's ability to successfully pursue and win major infrastructure projects.\nKey Responsibilities\nConstruction Estimating\n\n \n Develop detailed and accurate estimates for heavy civil construction projects.\n \n Prepare competitive bids for projects involving highways, bridges, dams, and other major infrastructure.\n \n Review project plans, specifications, contract documents, and bid requirements.\n \n Analyze construction requirements and develop appropriate cost estimates.\n \n Perform detailed quantity take-offs from construction drawings and plans.\n \n Determine labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other resource requirements.\n \n Develop estimates for projects typically ranging from $5 million to $40 million.\n \n Ensure estimates are complete, accurate, competitive, and submitted within required deadlines.\n\nPlans & Specifications Review\n\n \n Thoroughly review architectural, civil, structural, highway, and project-specific plans.\n \n Interpret construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements.\n \n Identify scope requirements, discrepancies, potential conflicts, and missing information.\n \n Evaluate project complexity and construction requirements.\n \n Develop a clear understanding of the proposed means and methods of construction.\n \n Identify areas that may affect project cost, schedule, productivity, or risk.\n\nQuantity Take-Offs\n\n \n Perform detailed quantity take-offs using project drawings and specifications.\n \n Calculate quantities for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.\n \n Verify take-off quantities and ensure all project scope items are captured.\n \n Use estimating and digital plan-review tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.\n \n Cross-check quantities against specifications, schedules, and other contract documents.\n\nCost Analysis & Pricing\n\n \n Develop detailed project cost estimates.\n \n Analyze historical costs, productivity rates, material pricing, labor requirements, and equipment costs.\n \n Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.\n \n Compare pricing and identify opportunities to improve bid competitiveness.\n \n Evaluate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other direct and indirect project costs.\n \n Assist with developing final bid pricing and recommendations.\n\nVendor & Subcontractor Coordination\n\n \n Solicit and evaluate quotations from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.\n \n Communicate with vendors and subcontractors regarding project scope and pricing.\n \n Clarify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, and qualifications within quotations.\n \n Negotiate pricing and assist in identifying the best-value solutions.\n \n Ensure vendor and subcontractor pricing is accurately incorporated into estimates.\n \n Develop strong working relationships with external project partners.\n\nSite Visits & Constructability Review\n\n \n Visit potential project sites prior to bid submission.\n \n Evaluate existing site conditions and project complexity.\n \n Identify potential construction challenges, access issues, site constraints, and logistical considerations.\n \n Compare actual field conditions with project plans and specifications.\n \n Gather information necessary to develop realistic construction approaches and estimates.\n \n Provide field observations and recommendations to the estimating and project management teams.\n\nRisk Assessment\n\n \n Identify potential estimating and construction risks.\n \n Evaluate project-specific challenges that may affect cost or schedule.\n \n Identify assumptions, exclusions, contingencies, and potential scope gaps.\n \n Assist in developing risk mitigation strategies.\n \n Communicate significant estimating risks to project leadership before bid submission.\n\nTeam Collaboration\n\n \n Work closely with Estimating and Project Management teams throughout the bidding process.\n \n Collaborate with Operations and construction personnel to develop practical build approaches.\n \n Communicate effectively with vendors, subcontractors, engineers, and internal stakeholders.\n \n Participate in estimating and bid review meetings.\n \n Present estimating findings, assumptions, risks, and recommendations to appropriate team members.\n \n Support the development of bidding strategies designed to improve competitiveness and project value.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation\n\n \n Bachelor's degree required.\n \n Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.\n\nProfessional Experience\n\n \n Minimum 5 years of construction industry experience.\n \n Minimum 5 years of experience working with construction project plans.\n \n Minimum 5 years of professional construction estimating experience.\n \n 5-7 years of heavy highway, bridge, or heavy civil construction estimating experience strongly preferred.\n \n Demonstrated experience estimating complex heavy civil infrastructure projects.\n\nProject Experience\nExperience with one or more of the following is strongly preferred:\n\n \n Heavy highway construction\n \n Bridge construction\n \n Dam construction\n \n Transportation infrastructure\n \n Public works\n \n Major infrastructure projects\n \n Highway networks\n \n Structural concrete\n \n Excavation and earthwork\n \n Site development\n \n Civil infrastructure\n\nExperience estimating projects in the $5 million-$40 million range is highly desirable.\nTechnical Skills\nThe successful candidate should be comfortable using technology and digital tools to support estimating activities.\nRequired / Preferred Software\n\n \n
