Registered Nurse (RN) – Telemetry / MedSurg
LocationSan Luis Obispo, CA | Acute Care
Schedule / Job TypeContract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM) | Every other weekend required (4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule) | Holidays rotated with permanent staff
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care on a MedSurg/Telemetry unit at a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio, with the ability to float between a 14-bed surgical/ortho/medical unit and a 44-bed cardiac-focused stepdown unit
- Monitor and interpret telemetry strips using Phillips monitoring equipment alongside a dedicated monitor technician; nurse strip reading is required
- Manage patients on cardiac and vasoactive drips including amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, fixed-rate insulin, nitroglycerin, and dopamine (renal dosing only)
- Care for a diverse patient population including post-cath, post-pacemaker, post-PCI, TAVR (day 1 or greater), CABG (day 1 or greater), sepsis, and respiratory distress patients
- Document and manage care using Cerner EMR
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy (available 24/7) and support staff; may manage patients requiring BiPAP or CPAP
- Active RN license valid in the state of California
- ACLS certification required
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Prior experience in a MedSurg/Telemetry or cardiac stepdown setting
- Familiarity with cardiac drip management (amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, nitroglycerin, dopamine)
- Experience caring for post-procedural cardiac patients (post-cath, post-PCI, TAVR, CABG)
- Comfort working in a unit environment without a dedicated IV team or 24/7 on-site pharmacy
- Work in a dynamic MedSurg/Telemetry environment with exposure to a broad acuity range, from surgical and orthopedic patients to complex cardiac stepdown cases
