Job Description

This is a remote position.

About the Role

Our client is a wealth advisory firm launching an integrated in-house tax preparation practice. They are hiring our first Tax Manager to serve as the founding member of a separate but closely affiliated entity designed to deliver seamless, coordinated tax and financial planning services to our existing client base and, over time, to the broader market.

This is a ground-floor opportunity to build something meaningful from scratch, with the full operational and financial support of an established wealth advisory firm behind you. You will not be left on an island. You will have administrative support, cutting-edge technology, and a collaborative team of financial advisers who genuinely understand the value of what you do.

What You Will Do

  • Prepare individual tax returns (1040s) for pre-existing clients and, over time, for new clients acquired through organic marketing

  • Handle simpler business returns (1120-S, 1065, 1120) where client complexity is appropriate; refer more complex business situations as needed

  • Prepare 1041 (estate and trust) returns for appropriate situations

  • File quarterly estimates, manage notices and correspondence from the IRS and state tax agencies, and handle routine IRS notice responses on behalf of clients

  • Collaborate with financial advisers to deliver a fully integrated client experience — including proactive tax planning conversations around Roth conversions, capital gain events, state relocations, and other life triggers

  • Participate in regular team meetings, weekly stand-ups, and all-company quarterly gatherings (two virtual, two in-person annually)

  • Help develop internal SOPs and workflows as the tax practice is built out from the ground up

  • Provide input on software and process decisions that will shape the long-term infrastructure of the practice

Requirements

What We Are Looking For

  • CPA license required

  • 6 to 11 years of tax experience at a public accounting firm or financial services firm

  • Strong foundation in individual tax (1040) with meaningful exposure to business returns (1120-S, 1065) and some experience with estates and trusts (1041)

  • Has taken 1040s to at least 95% completion independently; ideally has signing authority (PTIN), or is willing to obtain one

  • Experience interacting with the IRS and state tax agencies on behalf of clients (notice responses, penalty abatement requests)

  • Tech-savvy and adaptable — experience with modern tax or practice management software preferred, but the right disposition toward technology matters more than specific tools

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage a book of returns independently

  • Excellent interpersonal skills — you will interact directly with high-net-worth clients and collaborate daily with financial advisers; this is not a heads-down, back-office role

  • Stable job history — we are looking for someone who builds long-term relationships, not someone who job-hops

  • Comfortable working remotely and self-directing your schedule outside of busy season

What You Will Not Be Asked To Do

  • Cold-call or sell tax services at scale — we will handle marketing and lead generation

  • Perform audits, reviews, or compilations — this is purely a tax and advisory practice

  • Handle highly complex multi-entity situations beyond your comfort level in year one — we will build this together at a pace that makes sense
