Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing Services to lead our nursing team in providing exceptional care within a licensed healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of nursing home operations and acute care settings. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker with strong management skills, a thorough understanding of medical and nursing practices, and the ability to oversee compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA and Medicare standards. The Director of Nursing Services will be responsible for managing nursing staff, ensuring high-quality resident care, maintaining accurate medical records, and fostering a positive environment that promotes resident well-being and staff development.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily nursing operations across all departments.

  • Develop, implement, and review resident care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

  • Supervise and manage nursing staff, including hiring, training, scheduling shifts, and conducting performance evaluations.

  • Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, Medicare requirements, and state licensing standards.

  • Review medical records and documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to legal standards.

  • Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems and electronic medical record (EMR) systems for efficient documentation review and data management.

  • Lead quality assurance initiatives to improve resident outcomes and operational efficiency.

  • Facilitate communication between residents, families, medical providers, and staff to ensure coordinated care delivery.

  • Monitor medication management procedures in accordance with best practices and regulatory guidelines.

  • Provide leadership in emergency response planning and shift management to maintain continuous quality care.

Experience

  • Proven experience in nursing administration within skilled nursing homes.

  • Extensive background in nurse management with supervising experience in skilled nursing setting.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and care planning processes.

  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for documentation review and medical records management.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams and overseeing shift operations.

  • Knowledge of Medicare regulations, HIPAA compliance requirements, and documentation standards for medical records.

  • Previous experience with resident assessments such as MDS (Minimum Data Set).

  • Ability to manage complex care plans involving multiple disciplines while maintaining high standards of patient safety and quality of life. Specific Requirements

  • Must possess a current unencumbered active license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state.

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a nursing degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Must have, as a minimum, three (3) year(s) of experience as a supervisor in a skilled nursing care facility or other related health care facility.

  • Must have, as a minimum six (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.

  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept.

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.

  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.

  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
