Red Oak Greenhouses has an immediate opening for a full-time Floriculture Grower at our Red Oak, Iowa facility.

Established in 1879, Red Oak Greenhouses is a wholesale grower of beautiful plants year-round with a family tradition of growing lifelong partnerships, one employee at a time. Located approximately 45 minutes southeast of Omaha, our state-of-the-art, 26-acre indoor production facility is equipped with some of the most up-to-date technology and equipment available in the greenhouse industry.

We are looking for a hands-on, motivated individual who is passionate about plants, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in producing high-quality crops. This position involves all aspects of the production and growing process.


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain plant health throughout the growing and production cycle.
  • Manage plant requirements including watering, fertilization, EC and pH levels.
  • Scout crops and identify potential pest, disease, and plant-health concerns.
  • Apply Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles, including scouting and chemical applications.
  • Help produce a variety of crops while maintaining excellent quality standards.
  • Monitor growing conditions and respond to alarms as needed.
  • Complete assigned growing and production tasks according to schedule.
  • Maintain a detailed and consistent approach when working with multiple crops.
  • Work collaboratively with the greenhouse production team to achieve common goals.
  • Continue learning and developing greenhouse growing techniques.


Qualifications

  • Previous experience in greenhouse production, horticulture, floriculture, or a related field.
  • Understanding of plant requirements, including watering, fertilization, EC and pH management, and pest and disease identification/management.
  • Basic understanding of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles.
  • Ability to obtain an Iowa Pesticide Applicator License within 90 days of employment.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to producing high-quality crops.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn new growing techniques.
  • Ability to multitask and complete responsibilities according to schedule.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on greenhouse environment.

Physical & Schedule Requirements

  • Ability to climb, bend, sit, stand, kneel, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in hot greenhouse conditions during the summer months.
  • Ability to use required PPE, including a respirator.
  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Availability for overtime during busier seasons.
