Position Summary

This role involves glass loading/washing, automated spacer application, gas filling, and secondary seal processing, ensuring every unit meets TriStar’s rigid quality, structural, and aesthetic standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Automated IG Line Operation: Setup, calibrate, and monitor high-speed automated IG line equipment (e.g., automated glass washers, spacer application systems, gas presses, and secondary sealing robots).
  • Glass Processing & Assembly: Inspect incoming high-performance low-E glass lites, position spacer systems (warm-edge, Super Spacer, aluminum), and ensure proper air/argon gas fill retention prior to final sealing.
  • Quality Control & Optical Inspection: Perform strict visual and physical inspections under high-intensity light for glass defects (scratches, pinholes, low-E coating damage, seal voids, or dust contamination inside the unit).
  • Material & Chemical Handling: Safely handle and monitor primary (butyl) and secondary sealants (silicone, polyurethane), ensuring correct mixing ratios, bead depth, and adhesion.
  • Heavy Material Handling: Load, unload, and maneuver large architectural glass lites onto line conveyors and A-frame storage racks using overhead pneumatic vacuum lifters and cranes.
  • Routine Maintenance & Housekeeping: Clean glass washer tanks, change water filters, inspect sealant nozzles, maintain line vacuum cups, and keep work areas free of broken glass following 5S standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 1–3+ years of experience operating an automated Insulating Glass (IG) line (Lisec, Bystronic, GELGEN, GED, or similar high-capacity lines).
  • Glass Handling Expertise: Demonstrated experience with architectural glass, including low-E coated glass care, tempered glass, and heavy glass handling safety protocols.
  • Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 75 lbs regularly and stand/walk for 8–12 hour shifts in a fast-paced plant environment.
  • Precision Skills: Strong aptitude for reading production cut sheets, job orders, and tape measures down to 1/32" or millimeter tolerances.
  • Safety First: Strict adherence to glass plant PPE requirements (Kevlar cut-resistant sleeves/gloves, hard hats, safety glasses with side shields, and steel-toe work boots).

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior experience working with Vitro, Guardian, or Saint-Gobain certified architectural glass products.
  • Forklift or overhead crane operator certification.
