Electrical Estimator

Location: Hampstead, MD 21074

Position Overview

The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial electrical construction projects. This position requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, construction practices, project specifications, and cost analysis.

The ideal candidate will be able to review complex drawings and specifications, identify project scope and potential risks, develop detailed bids, and collaborate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates for commercial electrical construction projects
  • Review electrical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and cost analysis
  • Prepare competitive and accurate bids
  • Review project scopes and identify gaps, discrepancies, exclusions, and potential risks
  • Analyze labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project costs
  • Coordinate with project managers, vendors, subcontractors, and field personnel
  • Evaluate bid documents and project requirements
  • Assist with developing pricing strategies and final bid submissions
  • Maintain accurate estimating documentation and records
  • Ensure estimates comply with applicable electrical codes and construction requirements
  • Support multiple projects and estimates while meeting deadlines
  • Mentor or provide guidance to junior estimators when needed

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of electrical estimating experience
  • Strong background in commercial electrical construction estimating
  • Experience estimating large-scale or complex commercial projects
  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction practices and NEC
  • Knowledge and understanding of fire alarm systems
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
  • Experience using electrical estimating software
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong cost analysis and bid preparation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to identify scope gaps, risks, exclusions, and discrepancies
  • Experience collaborating with project managers, vendors, subcontractors, and field teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with schools, hospitals, healthcare facilities, federal facilities, or other complex commercial projects
  • Previous experience mentoring or leading junior estimators
  • Field experience as a licensed electrician
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical systems and installation practices
