This is a hands-on, physically active position involving daily chemical-waste collection, packaging, labeling, storage-area inspections, chemical dispensing and delivery, and EH&S documentation.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently, stay productive in a busy environment, and is comfortable performing routine manual/material-handling tasks while following strict safety and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect chemical waste from laboratories and process areas and transport it to designated Central Accumulation Areas (CAA).
- Package, label, inventory, and prepare chemical-waste containers for transport and disposal.
- Maintain waste storage areas, including housekeeping, container organization, supplies, signage, and inventory.
- Perform routine inspections of CAA and other waste-storage areas in accordance with RCRA and company requirements.
- Coordinate with R&D personnel on laboratory clean-outs and special waste-disposal activities.
- Dispense chemicals from drums into smaller containers using required PPE and safety procedures.
- Deliver chemicals to laboratories and designated storage areas.
- Read and use Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and available resources to support appropriate chemical/waste handling and disposal.
- Complete inspections, safety-equipment checks, and required documentation.
- Identify issues and initiate/track work orders or other corrective actions through appropriate tracking systems.
- Maintain EH&S records and report task completion status to the supervisor.
- Support EH&S activities such as procedure development, Management of Change (MOC) reviews, and database management as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Ability and willingness to perform hands-on, repetitive and physically active work.
- Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Strong initiative and a proactive approach to completing daily responsibilities.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including a chemical suit, full-face respirator, gloves, and steel-toe work boots.
- Must be able to pass a respirator fit test and maintain a clean-shaven face when required for respirator use.
- Strong attention to safety and compliance.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy, high-activity environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of chemicals and chemical handling.
- Experience reading Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Experience with hazardous waste, laboratory chemicals, environmental compliance, or EH&S activities.
- Experience in a laboratory, chemical manufacturing, industrial, environmental, or material-handling environment.
- Forklift certification is a plus but not required.
Ideal Candidate
This position is well suited for someone with experience as a Chemical Technician, Environmental Technician, Hazardous Waste Technician, Chemical Process Operator, Laboratory Technician, Material Handler, or similar hands-on role who is comfortable working around chemicals, following PPE requirements, and taking ownership of daily tasks.
Important: This is a hands-on role involving chemical-waste handling, manual/material-handling activities, and routine work in required PPE. Candidates should be comfortable with the physical and safety requirements of the position.
