Job Description
Entry Level Technician (Safety)
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Job Summary
We are seeking a Safety Technician to support safety and environmental activities at a research and industrial facility. This position will assist with inspections, hazardous waste management, chemical/waste handling, inventory, and maintenance activities.
Job Duties
- Conduct safety and environmental inspections of secondary containment, fire extinguishers, safety showers, chemical storage areas, and heavy equipment.
- Assist with bulk waste management, including collecting samples from hazardous waste containers.
- Prepare containers and submit/review required paperwork.
- Operate a forklift to transport hazardous waste.
- Assist with chemical and waste labeling and disposal activities.
- Assist with inventory purchasing and organization.
- Support maintenance of heavy equipment and safety equipment.
- Perform other safety and environmental-related activities as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 0 years of experience required.
- Hands-on experience with heavy equipment is preferred.
- Experience with chemicals or chemical processes, such as laboratory experience, is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Computer experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Valid driver's license with a clear MVR required.
- Must be able to obtain/use required safety equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs and ladders.
- Comfortable working in a plant, laboratory, highway, and outdoor environments.
- Ability to walk between work sites across a large facility/property.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Required Safety Equipment
- Steel-toed safety shoes
- Hard hat
- Valid driver's license
