Job Summary

The Assistant Director supports the Director in managing and coordinating nursing services to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. This leadership role assists with planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing department, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and standards of care.

Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions

  • Support the Director in overseeing daily nursing operations and staff performance.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and facility policies.
  • Participate in hiring, training, evaluating, and coaching nursing staff to maintain high standards of care and professionalism.
  • Help manage staffing schedules, assignments, and coverage needs.
  • Conduct clinical rounds to assess patient care, safety, and satisfaction.
  • Monitor and ensure accurate documentation of care and treatment by nursing staff.
  • Support infection control, quality assurance, and risk management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support care coordination and treatment planning.
  • Respond to patient or family concerns with professionalism and empathy, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Act as a liaison between nursing staff and administration.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Required
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
    • Completion of an accredited program of nursing
  • Preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or healthcare administration
    • Master’s degree in nursing or healthcare administration

Experience:

  • Required
    • Three years of experience in clinical nursing
  • Preferred
    • One or more year of leadership experience

Certification/Licensure:

  • Required
    • Licensed Vocational Nurse, with authorization to practice in the State of Texas
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
      • Must obtain within ninety (90) days of start date
    • SAFE Approach Level III Certification
      • Must obtain within six (6) months of start date
  • Preferred

Registered Nurse (RN), with authorization to practice in the State of Texas
