Podiatry Surgical Coder

We are hiring an experienced Podiatry Surgical Coder to support a large health system in the Chicagoland area. This is a fully remote, long-term opportunity for a certified coder with strong Professional Fee podiatry and foot/ankle surgical coding experience.

• Review operative reports and assign accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and modifier codes for podiatry and foot/ankle procedures.
• Code procedures including bunionectomies, hammertoe repairs, osteotomies, arthrodesis, tendon repairs, and reconstructive surgeries.
• Apply appropriate toe/digit, laterality, 59/XS, and Q modifiers based on documentation and payer guidelines.
• Review NCCI edits and bundling guidelines to ensure compliant coding and appropriate reimbursement.
• Code office visits, E/M services, injections, minor procedures, casting/splinting, DME, and orthotics.
• Review full operative reports and work directly with providers to clarify documentation when needed.
• Research and resolve coding edits and denials, including corrected claims and coding-related appeals.
• Stay current on CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, CMS, NCCI, and payer-specific coding guidelines.

• 3+ years of podiatry coding experience, including surgical/operative report coding.
• Active CPC, CCS, or equivalent coding certification.
• Epic experience required.
• Strong knowledge of podiatry surgical coding, modifiers, NCCI edits, and lower-extremity anatomy.
• Must have your own computer equipment and encoder.
• Able to work independently in a fully remote environment.

• COSC or CGSC certification.
• DME and orthotics coding.
• Coding denials and appeals.
• Provider education and documentation improvement.
• Internal coding audits or RCM audit experience.
• Modernizing Medicine/EMA, TRAKnet, Sammy, or AthenaHealth experience.

• Location: Fully Remote
• Schedule: Monday-Friday with flexible hours after training
• Training: Approximately 2 weeks, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
• Contract: Long-term contract opportunity
• Candidates located in Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin may have the opportunity to convert to a permanent position. Candidates outside these states can remain on an extended contract.
• Interview process includes a virtual interview and coding assessment.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced podiatry coder who wants the flexibility of working remotely while supporting one of the largest health systems in Chicagoland.
